We’d like to thank everyone who participated this Fall. The Knovel University Challenge requires students to use Knovel to correctly answer three engineering questions across multiple disciplines in order to be entered into a prize drawing. This year’s questions were difficult, yet more than 2,200 students participated in the challenge. Of those who participated, 17 were awarded prizes.

Engineers at Atlanta-based Southern Company have started turning to Knovel in large numbers to help solve complex problems faster and increase the efficiency of their technical decisions.
Southern Company enhanced their Knovel subscription by including Knovel Math, a new product that delivers engineering reference content directly into the Mathcad work environment.
|
Southern Company’s Engineering and Construction Services organization has a strong core of internal expertise – including engineering, procurement and construction capabilities – that is unique among integrated utilities. Considering the importance of trustworthy technical information to their projects, Knovel is natural fit.
“Innovation, speed and quality are fundamental elements of the expertise our engineers bring to every project, so we continually look for the best resources available to increase efficiency and maintain a competitive advantage in terms of cost and productivity. Knovel’s content is directly related to our business, so our engineers can quickly find relevant information and make efficient technology decisions. Furthermore, the interactive tables are valuable because we can incorporate them directly into reports. This is otherwise a tedious, manual process.” Carl Toner, project manager, Engineering and Construction Services, Southern Company.
We welcome Southern Company to the ranks of over 600 companies and Universities that depend on Knovel.

Over the last few months, you may have noticed a series of enhancements that make searching easier and new features like GET Search that take the guesswork out of pinpointing numerical data. We are building on the upgrades released in August and September to help Knovel users find trusted technical information more easily – and to do it faster. The result is a new search interface look and feel with simplified navigation, an improved browsing experience, results display pages and a new ‘recent searches’ feature to help users access and retrieve data quicker.

To learn more and get a walkthrough of all the new features now on Knovel, we invite you to join us for a free online webinar. We’ll be hosting a series of walkthrough sessions throughout October.

When designing a stage for a theater or concert hall, the sky is the limit- structural and mechanical engineering services can range from the common proscenium or ‘picture frame’ stage found in any high school auditorium to highly complex portable, mechanized structures built to support hundreds of thousands of concertgoers.
In this issue, our team takes several considerations into account, including total weight for lights and equipment, load on cables and accomodating the necessary stage hands. Read along as Knovel Math is put to work designing a stage platform. [ READ MORE ]
